This simulator provides accuracy, efficiency, and reliability in automotive radar testing, covering lab-based functional tests to vehicle-level production checks, all at a breakthrough price-performance ratio.

The Radar Essential Tester (R&S RadEsT) offers technology designed for precise and reliable radar testing across a wide range of applications. It supports everything from system checks and radar module debugging to software verification and functional testing, making it an essential tool for radar system development and production environments. Its advanced capabilities go beyond traditional passive reflective elements, providing enhanced radar alignment, calibration, and functional testing—particularly beneficial for OEM end-of-line testing.

It is engineered to simulate radar targets dynamically. It captures radar sensor signals, modifies them, and returns them as simulated targets, allowing for quick adaptation to fast-moving objects. This capability is critical for testing advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) functions like automatic emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC). Users can configure simulated targets on the fly, adjusting key parameters such as distance, velocity/Doppler, and attenuation/RCS, enabling precise testing of radar performance under various conditions.

Flexible, High-Precision with Compact Design

The system’s 12 receive and 12 transmit patch antennas support different polarizations, enabling target simulation from any angle without mechanical movement. This flexibility, combined with a built-in detection mechanism that adapts to radar sensor polarizations, enhances testing accuracy. It integrates analysis functionalities, measuring key radar sensor metrics like equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) and occupied bandwidth, ensuring high-quality radar performance.

Despite its advanced features, the compact and lightweight design allows for easy setup and integration into any test environment. It also offers optional battery operation for increased portability. The system includes self-check capabilities, continuously monitoring performance to detect any deviations or anomalies, ensuring long-term consistency and reliability.

It minimizes reflections and multipath effects through small patch antennas and an absorber-covered surface, providing a clean RF environment. It also offers compact shielding systems, such as the RadEsT-Z50 pyramidal and RadEsT-Z55 straight, for lab-to-vehicle-level testing with minimized interference and enhanced test accuracy.
