With improved jitter control, compact designs, and versatile ordering options, these drives enhance system performance while minimising costs and conserving valuable panel space.

Aerotech Inc. has expanded its Automation1 XA4 PWM servo drive series to offer a broader range of high-performance, cost-efficient options. The series now includes single-, dual-, and quad-axis configurations, providing machine builders with versatile solutions that combine performance and affordability. These compact drives enhance system performance while reducing overall costs, offering a superior performance-to-price ratio.

Key features of the series include

  • Improved in-position jitter
  • Good system performance and stability
  • Available in both AC and DC versions
  • Specifically designed to conserve panel space

Enhanced in-position accuracy is achieved through a 10 kHz servo loop update rate, ensuring greater system precision and overall stability. For instance, the AC version can save up to 72% of panel space compared to four XC4 panel mount drives, while the DC version reduces panel space usage by up to 27% compared to four XC2 drives. The series also offers versatile ordering options, including configurations for up to four axes, direct current power supply, and expanded input/output (I/O) capabilities. Two new I/O expansion boards provide up to 32 digital inputs/outputs, along with additional features like 5V/GND pins, auxiliary encoders, and sync ports, catering to a wide variety of application needs.

Designed for seamless integration, the drives are compatible with ball screws, BM, BMS, and third-party motors, supporting up to 340 VDC and offering peak currents of 10/20 A. This makes the series an ideal choice for machine builders looking for flexibility, performance, and space-saving benefits in their automation systems.

Daniel Hong, Controls Product Manager at Aerotech, highlighted the benefits of the new XA4 servo drive series, stating, “The new ordering options make it possible for more machine builders to harness the precision of our drives. These compact, streamlined PWM drives are not only economical but also save valuable panel space, delivering a high-value panel mount solution.”
