The new series offers easy migration from 2G/3G designs and introduces a combo variant for comprehensive indoor/outdoor tracking.

u-blox announces the expansion of its popular R10 product range to meet the rising demand for LTE Cat 1bis cellular connectivity. According to Techno Systems Research Co., Ltd, LTE Cat 1bis is projected to account for 43.6% of all non-handset cellular devices by 2029, making it the leading cellular technology for the Internet of Things (IoT) over the next four to five years.

The key features include:

  • Offers an ultra-compact 16 x 16 mm LTE Cat 1bis solution
  • Enhances the company’s LTE Cat 1bis portfolio
  • Caters to both the IoT market and users transitioning from legacy 2G/3G cellular technologies

The module is ideal for global use in size-constrained IoT applications such as people and pet trackers, and wearables. The LEXI-R10 Global is the world’s smallest single-mode LTE Cat 1bis module, featuring indoor location capabilities and a core certified by US mobile network operators. The SARA-R10 series extends the capabilities of the LEXI-R10 Global to the well-established SARA form factor. As 2G and 3G networks are phased out worldwide, the SARA-R10 provides an easy upgrade path to 4G LTE for product designers using 2G and 3G u-blox SARA modules. LTE is the most widely available global cellular standard, ensuring long-term connectivity.

Both the LEXI-R10 and SARA-R10 modules offer the option to embed an eSIM and include an integrated Wi-Fi Sniffer, enabling indoor localization via the u-blox CellLocate service, which utilizes both Wi-Fi and cellular networks. The world’s smallest LTE Cat 1bis module with embedded Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) capabilities for concurrent communication and tracking. This module is perfect for asset tracking and telematics applications requiring continuous connectivity and precise positioning, both indoors and outdoors, leveraging GNSS, Wi-Fi scan, and global LTE coverage. Notably, the SARA-R10M10 is 50% smaller than its predecessor, the LENA-R8M10. The modules provide product designers with 4G cellular connectivity solutions for IoT applications needing medium data rates, global portability, ultra-low power consumption, and compact sizes. The first samples of the LEXI-R10 Global and SARA-R10 will be available by Q3 2024.
